Yours Truly, John: A Memoir Paperback – July 26, 2024 by Joyce S Pattillo
John Stubblefield stands as one of the most highly respected jazz saxophonists of his generation, leaving an indelible mark through his collaborations with legendary musicians. Over three decades, he crafted a legacy as a composer, writer, arranger, bandleader, and sought-after studio and live performer. Although John died in 2005, his life echoes through his music and the lives he touched.
Written and compiled by his sister, Joyce Stubblefield Pattillo, this memoir includes both her memories of her brother as well as interviews with dozens of those who knew John and played music with him over the years. A photo album and appendix are also included.
"My brother was not just a musician," Pattillo writes. "He was a maestro. I remember the first time I heard him play; he played from his soul, and his long fingers would wrap around those notes painting a sound that lingered in the air long after he had stopped playing."
