On this show, we’ll preview the 13th Annual Charles Mingus Festival, this year shifting to a to a virtual platform to celebrate the musical legacy of the great American composer Charles Mingus, and to provide an opportunity for young musicians to explore their voices through the unique demands of making Mingus Music. We’ll be joined by Liz Torres and Zach Kirsimae, two of the three directors of the Charles Mingus Institute (Sarah M. Williams is the third), and Boris Kozlov, bass virtuoso and co-leader of the great ever-evolving improvisational – that is, jazz -- performance ensembles of all time, the Grammy-winning Mingus Big Band and Mingus Orchestra

In partnership with the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at The New School's College of Performing Arts, this year’s Mingus Virtual Festival –live streaming from Thursday February 11th through Monday February 15 -- brings both the experience of Mingus Music and New York City to young students, musicians, and audiences across the globe. The weekend will feature virtual performances by students and professionals, instrumental master classes, skill building workshops, interviews, historical films, a celebration of Mingus Mondays, and a look into Mingus' epic masterwork, Epitaph. This year’s Mingus Virtual Festival will be livestreaming at CharlesMingus.org from Thursday February 11th through Monday February 15.
