This 10-piece cellular symphony is borne out of the love story between cultural icon and artistic director Sue Mingus, and the legendary, larger-than-life Great American Composer and bassist, Charles Mingus.
In an Epitaph for a mystic man, we celebrate Mingus Music with a rare Portrait by this chamber jazz orchestra. Sibling to the Grammy-winning Mingus Big Band, Mingus Orchestra features the same Gunslinging horns and driving rhythm, in addition to non-traditional improvising elements including bassoon, bass clarinet, and french horn.
The Mingus Weekly Celebration is a local institution featuring the extraordinary Mingus Legacy Bands, drawing international attention and praise since 1991.
