Mingus Big Band celebrates the music of one of the most important figures in twentieth century American music – virtuoso bass player, pianist, bandleader and composer Charles Mingus. Mingus recorded over a hundred albums and wrote over three hundred compositions in his 56 years, leaving the second-largest legacy in American music after Duke Ellington. Today, this 14-piece band provides a home base for many top performers and exciting new players. “The music is, like Mingus himself, earthy, passionate, soulful and intense – and at all times swinging.” (NPR)
