The world-renowned Mingus Big Band celebrates the centennial of legendary composer, bassist, and bandleader Charles Mingus (1922–1979), who merged gospel and blues to create a soulful, hard bop. Under the artistic direction of Sue Mingus, the wife of the famous jazz genius, the band was featured regularly at New York City’s famous Jazz Standard and has ten recordings to its credit, six of which have been nominated for Grammy Awards®.
