Mingus @ 100: Mingus Dynasty Quintet at The Library of Congress

The Library of Congress joined forces with DC JazzFest to celebrate the 100th birth year and the legacy and contributions of the virtuoso bassist, bandleader and prolific composer Charles Mingus. The Mingus Dynasty Quintet paid tribute to the icon, one of the most significant jazz composers of the twentieth century. The celebration also featured an exhibition of selections from the Charles Mingus Collection at the Library of Congress. With more than 75 containers, the extensive collection includes manuscripts and printed music by Mingus; correspondence, writings (by and about Mingus); photographs of Mingus, his family, and colleagues, including Miles Davis, Max Roach, Eric Dolphy, and Oscar Pettiford; artwork and artifacts; and sound recordings. Processed in 1998, the Mingus Collection was the first multi-format jazz collection to be processed in the Music Division of the Library of Congress. Presented in cooperation with the Revada Foundation of the Logan family.
